Coryell reveals his own involvement in and eventual victory over the drug scene, and he gives his take on the musical giants he has known and performed with. Along the way, he details the development of his own style and provides inspirational words for fellow musicians. A special section presents a selection of Coryell´s beloved Guitar Player magazine columns. Includes CD with audio lessons and original compositions recorded specifically for this book.
Henry Fillmore is best known for his outpouring of successful marches. This becomes even more impressive when one realizes that he also wrote under eight names. He is also known as the ´father of the Trombone smear´ because of the wide acceptance of LASSUS TROMBONE and fourteen other compositions of this nature. Larry Clark greatly reduces any technical difficulties, leaving intact the great glissando effects that your audiences (and your trombone players) will love! (2:33)

(1996/Delmark) Delmark has been great about documenting Chicago-based musicians who are respected locally, but little known outside of the Windy City. A good example is Rich Corpolongo, who had been playing post-bop and avant-garde jazz around Chicago for decades when, in 1995, Delmark finally gave him a chance to record as an leader. The reedman sticks to his own compositions on his debut album, Just Found Joy, a varied effort that finds him joined by Chicagoans Larry Luchowski (piano), Eric Hochberg (acoustic and electric bass), and Mike Raynor (drums, percussion). Corpolongo´s pieces range from difficult, abstract numbers like ´Try To, If You Can´ and ´Time Impulse´ to the smoky, dusky ´Hey, What´s Happening,´ the congenial ´La Blues,´ and the impressionistic ´Valse.´ Corpolongo is heard on the alto and soprano sax as well as the clarinet, and he sees to it that this decent, if imperfect, debut is far from predictable. It´s regrettable that the Chicagoan waited so long to record as a leader. (AllMusic)
(2013 ´Delmark´) 58:01/12. 11 neue Eigenkompositionen von Straight Blues bis F unky Soul . Reviews of Toronozo´s first Delmark CD were overwhelmingly glowing. ´With consistently powerful performances from Cannon, a batch of compelling original songs, and the exemplary band work, Leaving Mood is a must-hear CD that should rank among the year´s best.´ - Living Blues ´Southside Chicago native Toronzo Cannon is a genuine triple threat artist (guitarist / singer / songwriter) as he amply demonstrates on Leaving Mood.´ - Blues Revue John The Conquer Root features eleven new original compositions ranging from straight ahead blues to funky soul to the psychedelic rocked out title track. Guitarist Lawrence Gladney and bassist Larry Williams return but this time around drummer Brian ´BJ´ Jones keeps the booty grooves shakin´. Awesome!
