America’s top gymnasts have been show stoppers at the Summer Olympics for decades - the women’s artistic team won nine medals in 2016 alone. But beneath the athleticism, smiles, sponsorship deals, and haul of gold medals was a dark secret: a story of sexual abuse and trauma that, when revealed, became one of the biggest scandals in the history of American sports. In early 2018, Larry Nassar, the former doctor for USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University, was sentenced to serve out the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to a variety of sex crimes. In a show of unparalleled force, more than 150 young women - from gold medalists to former Michigan State University athletes to old family friends - confronted the once beloved Nassar in court, sharing their pain and resolve. Many of them took legal, financial, and career risks to speak out. But these women’s stories also reveal a stranger, more far-reaching truth: that the institutions responsible for protecting them - from the United States Olympic Committee to local police departments - had known in some form about the abuse for years, and had not put an end to it. Twisted tells the harrowing story of these crimes and how Larry Nassar got away with them for as long as he did. New York Times best-selling author Mary Pilon and Carla Correa chronicle the scandal from its inception, tracking the institutions that Nassar hid behind, the athletic culture that he benefited from, and the women who eventually brought him to justice. In this Audible Original, you’ll hear directly from these people - including the voices of coaches, parents, industry leaders, and the survivors themselves - as they grapple with the truth about Nassar and describe what it took to bring him down.As we mention in Twisted, here are some resources for yourself or a loved one who may need information or confidential support. a href=´´https://www.childhe 1. When Larry slapped my ass at the office, I should have smacked him. Instead, I stormed away but God! I was turned on. I didn´t know why because he was a total jerk. Nonetheless, I spent the day turned on and even made angry flirtatious comments to Larry. I couldn´t handle it anymore and I took the day off and arranged for some casual sex later in the evening. Larry caught up with me in the parking lot, though, and before I knew it I´d invited him home. Damn it! He was rough and spanked the hell out of me before shoving that monster c-ck of his right in my ass! He gave me a brutal first anal sex experience. Why the hell did I like it? 1. Language: English. The Adventures of Keith and Larry: Volume One is the story of two young boys growing up in a small town in south Texas during the 1950s. The audiobook tells about life in a small town during that era through the eyes of the two young boys. It provides a look at life in small-town America, and it explores what life was like before TV, rock and roll, and before many of the modern inventions were available to families. The two young boys, Keith and Larry, have a number of adventures that I think you will enjoy listening to, and I´m sure it will bring back long-forgotten memories of your childhood. There are four volumes in this series. 1. Language: English. Narrator: John D. Lattimore. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/021740/bk_acx0_021740_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
Orphans - a Larry Lir mystery. An Irish boy with dark, magical powers.Who couldn´t help but be inspired by the phenomenal success of the Harry Potter series? I got the idea for Orphans from this, but I wanted an Irish character; and I wanted a story rooted in Celtic mythology, legend, and myth; and I wanted to combine all these elements into a modern setting that children could enjoy. I wanted to incorporate modern technology, modern forensics, and modern thinking into a spellbinding tale for children, and in Larry Lir, I think I found that character. Larry is a 12-year-old who fends mostly for himself in a rambling mansion on the Hill of Howth, in Dublin.Orphans is, I believe, aptly titled. The main character, Larry, is left an orphan following the brutal murder of his parents. When three Cuban children, recently orphaned themselves, appeal to Larry for help, he has to take up their case. The shadow of Charles Dickens and the splendid Oliver Twist looms a bit here. Even his archenemy is an orphan. There is an important underlying message in the book that relates to basic press freedom and democratic values. The book is set for the most part in Ireland, both in Dublin and Wexford. Other locations used are the USA and Cuba. There are strong hints of mythology like the famous fable of Oisin, warned not to dismount from his horse when he returned to Irish soil lest the years catch up with him.The Children of Lir, of whom Larry is a direct descendant, also play a role in this tale. A curse from their time hangs over Larry. The book shows, I hope, the independent spirit that dwells within children and the battle of triumph over evil. 1. Language: English. An in-depth look at the strategies of Google´s shockingly successful founders. You´ve used their products. You´ve heard about their skyrocketing wealth and ´´don´t be evil´´ business motto. But how much do you really know about Google´s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin? Inside Larry and Sergey´s Brain skips past the general Google story and focuses on what really drives these men and where they will take Google in the future. Richard L. Brandt shows the company as the brainchild of two brilliant but individual men and looks at Google´s business decisions in light of its founders´ ambitions and beliefs.Larry is the main strategist, with business acumen and practical drive, while Sergey is the primary technologist and idealist, with brilliant ideas and strong moral positions. But they work closely together, almost like complementary halves of a single brain. Larry is more socially awkward and rarely volunteers to answer questions. Sergey is more poised but is also shy with outsiders.Through interviews with current and former employees, competitors, partners, and senior Google management, plus conversations with the founders themselves, Brandt demystifies the secret society that is Google, as well as clarifying a number of misconceptions. 1. If there was ever a man that could be considered the personification of evil and cruelty, it was Larry Eyler. He was purely evil. He even believed in demons, and, considering his actions, might have wanted to be one himself. One of the many serial killers who struggled with the fact that he was homosexual, Larry Eyler was the youngest of four children brought up in Indiana, often beaten by step-fathers and sent to live by his mother with a bunch of other families. Eyler, a house painter and liquor store clerk, stalked the streets of mid-western cities and towns of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Wisconsin, even though he wasn´t a ´´transient´´ by any stretch. He had three areas where he worked and played, as well as killed. He could be found in Greencastle, Indiana, where he worked in a liquor store, a friend´s place in Terre Haute, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois, where he shared his space with not only his lover, but the lover´s wife and kids. Living this way gave him a wide area to find victims to fulfill his violent sexual needs. And when he would be satiated, he would take out his anti-gay sentiments on his victim, usually ending up with the victim dead of stab wounds while bound, and even dismembered. In March of 1982, it all began. And like transient serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, Eyler literally got away with murder because of his usual MO; never or at least very rarely killing in the same area twice. But unlike his counterpart, Eyler did not attempt to cover up his crimes with false confessions or lies; he was proud of what he’d done, and had readily admitted to his crimes upon capture. He enjoyed raping, torturing, and killing. This audiobook is not for the squeamish or weak of heart. It describes his crimes in vivid detail. If you are brave enough to go further, this is his story. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Zdanis. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/104385/bk_acx0_104385_sample.mp3.
